THE PROJECT
What you need to know
Every year, in Australia alone, more than 96,000 lives are lost to miscarriage, stillbirth or newborn death. The death of a baby is very personal and can be one of the most profound traumatic experiences for parents; yet, it remains a topic that is rarely spoken about in public. For something so common, why do we suffer in silence?
Lives Unlived
When people experience the loss of life during pregnancy, childbirth or new parenthood, the pain of their bereavement is often misunderstood. Or worse still, it’s simply ignored. And so bereaved parents are often left feeling empty, isolated and alone, with nothing tangible to acknowledge their loss. Lives Unlived is a national campaign to create an epic artwork that acts as a living memorial for the 96,000 babies lost in Australia every single year.
How will it work?
1. Proposals - Commission artwork proposals from five amazing artists. 2. Fund-raising – Crowd-funding campaign to raise the funds for the development and creation of the epic artwork. 3. Selection - Every pledge earns one vote for the selection of the winning artwork. 4. Creation - Selected artist develops and creates the artwork. 5. Launch - The artwork is launched to Australians and the world.
